Pleasant staff, big room but tatty. Lovely wine choices but the beer was not very chilled. Breakfast was good but maybe make your own dinner plans. The menu was impressive but fell short of the description.

We had a family wedding near Sanquhar so we took a number of rooms for the whole family including young children and babies. We were so well looked after by the Italian owner and his wife, Paulo and Anna, they couldn’t do enough for us and the food was excellent. We had breakfast lunch and dinner most days, and would really recommend going to eat there if you live locally. We also had rooms that we could walk straight into the garden and enjoy the evening sun looking directly onto the river Nith. Thank you for looking after us all and making us feel so welcome

A country house just outside Sanquhar with its own vegetable garden, used extensively in the cooking. Our room was large, warm, and comfortable. And we were the only guests this Saturday, so we had the place to ourselves. The jacuzzi bath in our room was a pleasant surprise, making up for the municipal FUN next door which was closed during our stay https://www.dumgal.gov.uk/funpool We had assumed that the six course dinner would be a taste menu, but the portions were quite large, and by the end we were struggling. The food was great - traditional Italian mixed with occasional innovative departures (beetroot sorbet, kohl rabi veloute). I liked the wine list and the knowledgeable advice of our host (who comes from northern Italy). We chose the Ripasso, which packed quite a punch and kept us going throughout our long meal. We had a late breakfast - and definitely weren't very hungry - but couldn't pass on the wonderful cooked options. The Scottish breakfast was spot on (even including Stornoway black pudding, tattie scone and fried bread). The peat smoked haddock was perfectly cooked - as was the accompanying poached egg. We'll definitely go back, but late in the year when they will have much more fresh veg from their garden.

I found the owners to be extremely accommodating and attentive. Food was amazing as was the staff! Highly recommend.

Food is delicious! Made working away a treat as opposed to the standard franchise hotels I'm used to being booked into. Would hugely recommend anybody to stay here it's excellent.

Stay in one of the cottages, so I can't comment on rooms. We had two delicious meals from the restaurant, highly recommended for a treat or special occasion.

We had a delicious dinner at this restaurant with very friendly staff. The Chicken Stroganoff was amazing as was the Orecchiette ! We were late getting out of a meeting, but when we called at 8:30pm they said if we got there by 9pm, they could serve us dinner. We walked around the property and wished it was daylight because we could tell the river and field views would be outstanding. We will definitely be back again.

Overall disappointing stay at the Blackaddie. Room booking confirmation advised we had a jacuzzi bath in the room, arrived to find this was not the case, when queried we were told there was a mix up at booking and nothing could be done unless we wanted to pay £30 extra for a suite. Really disappointing customer service, we were staying for our wedding anniversary, no special touch or goodwill gesture to make up for the disappointment. I had plans to have a relaxing bath this morning before check out. Also discovered this morning the shower is freezing cold so that was a lovely way to start the day. I didn’t even bother calling about this as was put off by the previous interaction. The hotel smells of damp dogs which as a non animal person was quite off putting. A child also answered the reception phone when I called to query the bath situation which I found to be strange and rather unprofessional! All in all a disappointing stay and we will not be back.

Lovely hotel with great character. Sitting right on the river. Staff could not have been nicer. Well stocked bar and delicious restaurant meals. (Great background music!) Breakfast was plentiful and was of excellent quality. Will definitely revisit. Thank you.

A superb hotel and a great undiscovered part of the country. The food is simply wonderful and the team could not do enough for us. Well worth every penny.

Very nice food, good selection on menu! Slightly expensive for portion size, but delicious food. Looked after our dog with treats very well! Amazing whisky selection!

Comfortable, friendly atmosphere, and possibly the best steak dish I've ever eaten,...our two small border terriers were accommodated too....so glad we found this place, a future stopover or fishing destination for the future....highly recommended.

Very disappointing as we came here for the supposedly excellent food. It was home cooking at best and overpriced.

We were here for a birthday lunch. Friendly staff, delicious food, elegant atmosphere in the restaurant, cosy and comfortable in the bar area for coffee afterwards. (There is a lovely 5km circular walk from the hotel along the pretty Euchan Water glen, then back along a minor road with stunning views of the Lowther Hills.)

Food was absolutely amazing without question the best I’ve ever had. The grouse suite was fantastic beautiful room with amazing views and plenty of room it also had a jacuzzi bath and powerful shower. The staff was so attentive nothing was too much trouble for them . I requested a beef tartare which pauloj made thought I was in heaven thouroubly delicious. We had 3 nights here over new year will definatley be going back without hesitation. Excellent maintained throughout fantastic atmosphere and Paulo is an absolute credit to his trade .

Lovely walks, manor style hotel, large room with SPA bath, fruit in room, fridge, robes and a homely feel. However over priced room, little coffee, shower had little power, had to ask for the heating to be switched on. Dinner is well over priced £65.00pp for 3 course basic food option that had been cooked prior and left for a re-heat as the chef was not on site for dinner. Breakfast was lovely but not enough, yogurts a little warm, lots of delicious salmon which was great but the smallest poached egg in the middle. Full cooked breakfast was not filling for a full grown man. One small poached egg little meat (2x slice bacon, 1x link)...more just bread done different ways...toast, fried bread and potato scone.

My favourite hotel . Lovely location next to salmon river . Rooms individual and very comfortable. Food is amazing and the owner is also the chef who has had a Michelin star for his cooking. Have you ever had Roast onion icecream before ? Simply sensational !
